Paraparaumu and Kapiti College Visits

It’s that time again when the Year 8 students and their parents make the important choice of which college they wish to attend next year. As part of the process students have had the opportunity to visit both Paraparaumu College and Kapiti College for a morning each and experience some of the wonderful opportunities that both colleges offer. It was great to see our students get actively involved in the activities and to meet up with some of our previous students, who either helped show us around the campus or just wanted to say hello. Well done to all the students who have attended these two visits for the HEART values that you showed during this time, as it was commented on by senior teaching staff from both colleges, maintaining Te Horo highly regarded reputation as recognised around the region. We eagerly look forward to our Otaki College experience early in Term 3.

Pinecone Fundraiser

We had a great turnout & loads of fun gathering pine cones at the Freyberg’s property.  Who knew that all we had to do was suggest they bring hammers to bash them off the branches…. then there was a lot of enthusiasm!  We managed to fill 50 sacks, which was a fantastic effort from the kids, siblings and parents!   We now have to convert these to cash, so we’ll be selling them at the school gate, payment to the school office. Alternatively you can email or text orders to Janet Cottle ([email protected] / 021 301-330).

PADDY’S MART

Paddy’s Mart is next term and these school holidays are a great time to have a clean out of all your good quality unwanted items.  Delve into the closet where you keep all the things that you might use one day and have a good clean out.  We are after any Toys, Books and Bric a Brac.  All of your unwanted items can then be dropped into Room 7 at school and will be sold at Paddy’s mart.

More information will be coming out about Paddy’s Mart next term, so keep an eye out and if you’d like to get involved or know more please email:  [email protected]

NEXT MEETING

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday the 19th July at 8.45am at Ruth Pretty’s, School Road.  Come along and have a cuppa and a scone.  These meetings are open to all parents, caregivers, grandparents of the school.  It is a great opportunity to meet like minded people and get involved in our lovely community.

Wanted – any lengths of timber from 1m upwards of any size new or recycled (4×2, 6×2 8×2 etc) and plywood to help make new woodwork tables in our construction zone. We can also provide a home for any solid wooden tables, woodwork hand tools or power tools no longer needed, along with spare nails, screws hinges and the like, which could be used to help provide the senior students the opportunity to experience making things out of wood. Our second term construction group made a wide range of things from shelving and mini book cases to stationary holders and birdhouses, which they took home with great pride.

Any donations can be dropped at the school office and would be gratefully received.
