Matariki, our learning journey.
Many of our children have experienced what Matariki means for many years, and this year our mahi has continued to extend children’s knowledge of the significance of this time of year as well as how it might impact our future. The junior school has continued to grow and experience knowledge in various ways, from listening to each other, to hearing from experts, making art to be shared (Putiputi pohutukawa) as well as continuing to develop our reo. Ka pai tō mahi.
As we gathered early on the last day of term, we also danced!! The kids have been working hard since the beginning of term to learn a pre-choreographed dance from the NZDance Challenge crew. This involved learning the significance of each move as it correlated to the kupu/words and whetu/stars. The final recording was a success and has been compiled and sent of for judging later in the term. Fingers crossed!

Pinecone Fundraiser
We had a great turnout & loads of fun gathering pine cones at the Freyberg’s property. Who knew that all we had to do was suggest they bring hammers to bash them off the branches…. then there was a lot of enthusiasm! We managed to fill 50 sacks, which was a fantastic effort from the kids, siblings and parents! We now have to convert these to cash, so we’ll be selling them at the school gate, payment to the school office. Alternatively you can email or text orders to Janet Cottle ([email protected] / 021 301-330).
