PADDY’S MART 2023

The Te Horo School Fair, Paddy’s Mart, was once again a HUGE success, attracting people from Wellington through to Palmerston, with the city dwellers loving the all round country theme that our fair offers and the locals enjoying our produce and catching up with other locals.  The fair saw another 2,000 people through its gates again this year with the weather working in our favour and the local farmer opening his paddock to allow fair goers easy parking.  Our little community pulls out all the stops when the call goes out for Paddy’s Mart.  New families and old all get together to really make this event successful.  We are also lucky enough to have a principal who welcomes and encourages our crazy ideas and allows us to take over the school, not just for the day but most of the term.  Our Home & School Committee continues to be heavily supported by parents and caregivers at the school and these people are the ones who put in the hard work behind the scenes pulling it all together.  We were also very fortunate to once again have Derek Kelly from Kelly & Co be our principal sponsor again this year.  Without Derek and his very generous donation our fair would not have been as successful as it was.

We would like to personally thank each and every person who got involved this year, we are humbled by all of the effort that you put in and we are super excited to announce that we made $45,509.  This was well beyond any of our expectations.  So thank you again for all of your hard work and support.

We would also like to thank our Main Raffle Sponsors…

The main raffle was also drawn on the weekend.  We would like to congratulate all the winners, who have been notified:

  1. Family Fun Times – Lisa Clappcott

2. Homes Delight – Harker Family

NETBALL & SAUSAGE SIZZLE

What a great event – On Monday at lunch time both the teachers and students played a highly competitive game of netball – Thanks to the coaches and refs.
The whole school was marking the beginning of a summer season with a sausage sizzle organised by Louise and Sarah.  This was great fundraising toward year 6 & year 8 Camps and raised  $212.00.
This is another event that brings students, staff and a number of community parents together and makes Te Horo School what it is. “Fabulous”

Life Education

It was awesome to have the Life Education team in at school during Week 8.  The children were all engaged in their lessons and certainly learnt a lot.  We do hope they shared some of this learning with you at home.  Many thanks to Jonny and Harold for creating this experience for our children.

Verbal Bouquet!

Thank you to Jacqui Grannetia who attended the Kapiti College Options Day with some of our Year 8 students.  We appreciate you giving up your time to support the Year 8s.

EPRO8 Internal Event

Last week the Year 5 / 6 and Year 7 / 8 students took part in the Internal EPRO8 competition.  6 hired kits plus the schools open 2 kits allowed 8 teams to compete with the ability to choose from 3 activities then attempt to meet set criteria to earn points along the way. The concept of EPRO8 is to develop problem solving skills, team work, communication and fun and the students took the opportunity to build some amazing structures.                                                                               Two teams from Te Horo will compete against other schools later in October.

Te Reo Tuatahi

Our Year 4 – 8 students are currently using an online platform called Te Teo Tuatahi for the consolidation and practice of our Te Reo and Tikanga Maori lessons.

Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori/Māori Language Moment 2023

This year we celebrated in multiple ways. Each child got a feather/huru to decorate. Following this each feather was attached into a collective korowai/cloak.

We gathered in the hall to sing our school waiata, Tōku Kainga Waewae. Following this we shared to korowai and hung it in the hall.

Thank you to all the children and staff who helped this moment come together.
