Jo Hillier

Teacher Room 2

Kia Ora, ko Jo Hillier taku ingoa.
I have been a teacher here at Te Horo School since the beginning of 2020. I have been teaching for 12 years and my two previous schools were in Porirua. I live in Te Horo with my husband John and we have lived there for 12 years on our block, with dogs, cows, pigs and sometimes sheep. We are foster carers for two boys who also attend Te Horo School. We also have three grown up children, with a beautiful grandson, two step grandsons and another one on the way. We have been in New Zealand for 14 years, since emigrating from England. I have wanted to work at Te Horo school for many years as I loved the idea of a country school in a beautiful setting and much closer to home than Porirua! Since being here I have seen the wonderful relationships the children have with each other, tuakana teina is a huge part of the culture at the school and the children look after each other. The staff here are the most supportive, amazing, hard working, fun bunch I have worked with and I love being here. I enjoy teaching literacy and seeing the progression of the students over the year. I am currently the Learning Support Coordinator (SENCo) across the school
